Chaitsingh Ghat in Varanasi in the late 1970s. According to my memories there is an inscription on a plaque on a wall behind it in memorial to the British who died when they went to arrest the king of Varanasi, Chait Singh, and then found they had forgotten their ammunition. There is also a plaque on the front marking the spot where Chait Singh jumped into the river and escaped when Warren Hastings came a second time to arrest him.
